Coming to all of you sort-of-live from sunny, beautiful Paso Robles :) This has been a great week! We had a lot of fun stuff happen, and things are still going great :)
So first off, we had an AWESOME lesson with Valerie. We were on our way to an appointment with some investigators in San Miguel, and as we were pulling off the freeway they texted us and told us they had something pop up and we needed to reschedule. We were kinda frustrated with that because we had driven all the way out there, and so we decided to go see Valerie since she lives up there as well. We'd called her a couple times during the week and she'd never gotten back to us. So we drove up there, and she was sitting in the front yard talking on her phone. She quickly ended the call, and was very excited to see us. As we talked to her, she told us that she had been reading the Book of Mormon and was loving it! Not only that, but she has been defending the Church against some of her friends. She had told them she is investigating, and they were less than supportive. But she straight up told them that they had no idea what they were talking about and that they weren't ever to talk about the Church like that to her ever again. Yeah. She's super solid. We're meeting with her personally sometime this Friday, and she's planning on coming to our Book of Mormon class this Wednesday!
We also met with Bob, and he's doing good. He's really struggling to quit smoking, and unfortunately he hasn't been able to quit in time to make his baptismal date of May 30th. He was pretty bummed, but we left him with a commitment to ponder and pray about a new baptismal date, and we're hoping that if he sets it himself, he'll be more inclined to work hard towards it. He still loves meeting with us, and I've got high hopes for Bob :)
For the spiritual thought this week, I want to talk briefly about scripture study. This last week I had the goal to read the scriptures more often. I've been reading, but I know I can be reading more and I should be. So read at every opportunity I could find. Any free time I had, I whipped those bad boys out. And I saw wonderful things begin to happen. I found that it was easier to resist temptation; to recall passages of scripture; and I had a lot more energy and determination. Overall, I was a lot happier. I just want to bear my testimony of the power of the scriptures. It's real. Those verses are more than just words on a page. They are what make or break a testimony, and the only breakage comes from not reading them. I think all of us have some way we can improve on our scripture study, and I encourage all of you to find a way you can :)
That's about all for today I hope you all have a wonderful week this week! I love all of you :)
Much love,
Elder Brennan Jon Rosenlof
