Busy or Boring?

We'll never know. No general and his letter to me was all personal business and nothing informative about the mission. Guess we'll wait and see what happens next week?

How Great the Mercies of Our Lord‏

Hey everyone!

Well this week has really just been one miracle right after the other. My heart is full of gratitude for all the things that the Lord has sent us this week. It's a new transfer, new companion, and new/old ward. All signs are pointing to a great six weeks. let me give you the low down:

First off, COMBINING WARDS IS A NIGHTMARE. Oh my heck. We have meetings after meetings, and then we have meetings during other meetings. I do have to admit that it's been a lot of fun though, and I'm really loving Conejo Canyon. The Bishop is awesome. He's very direct and a no nonsense sort of guy, but at the same time he's a big goofball. We relate a little too well haha! We've gotten a lot of work done this week though. We've started following up on the commitments from the Christmas initiative in DV, and we're already yielding fruits from that. 2 of the 4 referrals we received this week came from those follow ups, and even cooler is the fact that we got 2 other that just fell out of the sky! Elder Petersen and I have made it a goal to get these wards re-split by the end of the transfer, and I don't think that's going to be to much of a problem :)

So here's the info on Elder Petersen. He is from San Antonio, Texas, and has been out for about 9 months. Being his companion has been interesting as well as very humbling. He has moderate Asperger's syndrome (similar to autism for those of you who don't know) and severe ADHD. Needless to say, this is going to be a very interesting transfer. But the reason I say its been humbling is because, about 2 weeks ago, I started praying that the Lord would help me develop greater charity, humility, and patience (which are things I should know better than to pray for), and the Lord has always said "ask and ye shall receive." Mercifully, I am the recipient of these blessings, and I'm gaining them through experience. I have had to exercise all of those attributes everyday this week, and its actually been amazing to see how much I have grown to love Elder Petersen. Does he make me want to pull my hair out sometimes? Absolutely. But I've been blessed to be able to see the world through his eyes and, more importantly, see him through Christ's eyes. That has helped me to have the charity, humility, and patience that I need in order to be what Elder Petersen needs me to be as well as more of what the Lord needs me to be.

Now for a miracle story. Honestly, this has probably been the coolest experience of my mission. So last Thursday Elder Petersen and I went to go visit a potential investigator, and they weren't home. It was almost time for lunch so we were trying to decide whether to try and work the area a little or just head home. We talked about it and we both felt like we needed to start walking, so we got onto the main road that wasn't far from us and started down. After a few minutes of walking and trying to talk to those that we came across, we reached a cross street. I was just planning on walking straight past it, but when I looked down the street the Spirit strongly prompted me to walk down it. So we changed our direction and started down that street. About half way down we saw a woman pulling things out of her car and approached her offering to help. She immediately recognized us and introduced herself as a member from the San Bernadino area. We talked for a little while, and she told us that she has been here for the past month because her 5-month-old daughter has been a children's hospital in LA for some operations and she's been staying with her mom while she's been recovering. She then told us to come by the next day and meet her mom, who she said had been asking questions about the Church and was thinking about coming. We went by the next day and met her mom, Jocilyn, and set an appointment for the next day. We brought along a recent convert, and the lesson went amazingly. She asked searching questions, talked about how much sense it made, and readily committed to read, pray, attend church, as well as be baptized. She also followed through with her commitment to come to Church and very strongly felt the Spirit. While we were singing the sacrament hymn, she broke down in tears because she felt the Spirit so strongly. Anyhow, this whole expereince has really helped to increase my testimony that the Lord is hastening His work and that we are a part of that hastening. It's been a truly once in a lifetime experience.

I hope you all have a great week! Keep the faith, and trust in our God. I love you all!

Love,
Elder Brennan Jon Rosenlof
